All cats need to have meat protein for a strong heart also cooked beef, chicken, turkey, and lean deli meats. Cats living in the wild they hunt small prey such as rodents, mice, rabbits and reptiles.

Some kittens live in a house with their owners or some cats are wild.  there are lots of different types of species of wild cats such as an ocelot, clouded leopard, african wild cat, flat headed cat, and several others.

I have achieved know what different words mean because I have been reading the text when I need information.  I have searched tricky words up on the dictionary to learn their meaning.
We read an article about the Sea Turtle that was endangered.
We made an information web and wrote lots of facts about the sea turtle.

Classify groups of species in the living world and describe different habitats.

I cannot identify objects/ideas associated with groups of species in the living world and I need help to group them and link them to their habitat.

I can identify one relevant group within the groups of species in the living world and 1 habitat they live in.

I can identify 1 animal in a species group and the habitat it lives in.

I can identify several relevant groups and or subgroups within the groups of species in the living world.
I can identify several animals from species groups and the habitats they live in.

I can give reasons why they live in this habitat
I can identify several animals from species groups and the habitats they live in.  I can give reasons why they belong to this group.

I can identify several animals from species groups and the habitats they live in.  I can give reasons why they belong to this group.
I can give reasons why they live in this habitat.
I can look at these animals and habitats in a new way by showing my understanding through the art of Collage and a written description.
Effective Strategies

3 or more animals, plants  and aspects of the habitat. Written description of why animals are in their species groups and why they live in the habitat.
I can show this through my college and my writing.

I have created a New Zealand forest habitat and included 3 creatures that live there, one endemic, one native and one introduced.

The Forest habitat contains different levels of plant species. At the top level are tall native trees like the Rimu, Totara and Pohutukawa.  They protect the layers underneath. At the mid level are shrubs and small trees like pittosporum. On the forest floor there are fungi and creeping plants. There are rocks and fallen logs amongst these plants.

The native animal I have chosen is the Kiwi. They especially like forest areas where trees run down to river edge’s where the soil is soft so it’s easier to find food and there's lots of shelter. They eat invertebrates especially native worms they also eat berries, seeds and some leaves they’re nocturnal. It’s easier for them to find food at night because the underground invertebrates they like to eat move closer to the soils surface.

The introduced animal I have chosen is the hedgehog. They make their den under tree roots and in deep dry leaf litter. They have several dens that they move between they are also nocturnal like the kiwi. They eat slugs, snails and larger insects and also eggs. They are part of the erinaceidae family.

The endemic animal I have chosen is the tuatara. Tuatara live in burrows and are more active at night but will come out during the day to sit in the sun they are carnivores eating invertebrates, lizards, frogs, chicks of seabirds and small tuatara. They can live up to 100 years with a female only laying eggs once every 2-7 years. They are a part of the reptile family sphenodontia because they lived at the time of the dinosaurs.

The kiwi, hedgehog and tuatara all live in the New Zealand Forest habitat.
